First Thoughts on Mando in Shatterpoint

Yesterday I played in Mythic’s May 4th Shatterpoint Showdown. And for the first time in a looooooong time I went 3-0. 😀

I played 3 games with Mando + Maul and I loved it! The strike team has a lot of punch with good mobility and the ability to clap back. I barely thought about force economy through the entire game. I think there was maybe only one turn where I had 0 force to spend.

Thoughts on Mando

My first activation with Mando and one that I think he’ll do often is move + A Clan of Two which gives him a dash + diceless displacement. It’s so useful to move someone off a point. Then you can shoot someone as a bonus.

In terms of stances, I stayed in the Bring You In Cold stance which gives you 5 damage and a shove with 3 successes – which is what I rolled most often. Only once did I get the free Active ability on 4 successes.

The Mandalorian capturing a point
The Mandalorian used A Clan of Two to push Jango Fett off the point. Then shot him dealing 5 damage.

From a strike force building perspective. You want to surround Mando with Mandos, Scoundrels, and Bounty Hunters. You can’t get the diceless displacement on the A Clan of Two ability if you have Mando near units who don’t have one of those tags.

Thoughts on Greef Karga

I am surprised how much i liked Greef! I assumed he’d do very very little in the game. Only being useful if he goes early and you can activate his Some Of My Favorite People Are Bounty Hunters to move your allies up the board.

I actually only used that ability a few times and it wasn’t nearly as helpful as I thought. What I did find fantastic about Greef is sometimes in struggle 3 you just need to capture one point to win the game. And Greef with his ability Wolves At My Back which means he wins ties.

IG-11 was wounded so Greef Karga stole an objective from Ahsoka.

I actually Shatterpointed Grief Karga twice in the three games I played. He actually won me game 1 by doing just that.

Thoughts on IG-11

IG-11 might have been the most disappointing in the Mando box. A second unit wasn’t always in range of IG-11 so I couldn’t get my second shot.

His best moment was early game 2 where he was able to grab an empty objective and shoot Jango who had already been shot by Mando. IG-11 finished him off closing out a very quick struggle 1. He’s pretty decent at getting a couple steps down his combat tree doing 4 damage and a few choices of special conditions, a push, or a reposition. Not too shabby.

I didn’t use Are You Refusing my Request and hope to try that in a future game. It just might not be worth the risk.

Overall this box is really good and really powerful. It’s especially powerful when pared with Darth Maul who keeps your force pool full.
